Proud Mom Moments

Each year we go door to door delivering food baskets on the Saturday morning before Christmas.  We don Santa hats and put on Christmas music and have some family fun while spreading Christmas cheer.  This year, Dominik was invited to sleep over a friends house on the Friday before we would make deliveries so that they could go see the new Star Wars movie first thing Saturday morning at a movie theatre that was rented out just for this friends karate class.   When we told Dominik that it was the food delivery day, he immediately said he understood that he couldn't go to the movies.  He didn't even hesitate.  So we decided to give him an alternative to doing the food baskets with us.   He could make lunches and hand them out to homeless folks in downtown Lowell sometime in December and the rest of us would do food basket deliveries as usual and he could go to the movie.  He jumped at that idea (of course!).    I got this idea from a friend who did something similar in Boston recently.

Today was the day.  Dominik made 4 sandwiches:  2 peanut butter and jelly and 2 turkey and stuffing.  He packed them in bags along with chips, cookies and a water bottle.  He labeled the bags and off we went.

I drove and he pointed out people he thought could use a sandwich.  When he found someone, I pulled the car over and he got out and asked if they would like a sandwich.  The recipients were so very appreciative!  Dominik got back into the car with a HUGE smile on his face.   I asked him how he felt after we finished delivering all 4 bags and he said he had butterflies in his stomach.  He couldn't believe that he actually helped those people.  I think he was tremendously proud of himself.  As he should be.  As am I.
While we were driving he said "It's amazing to see the difference from a town like this to a town like Windham".  I think he starting to understand that we are very fortunate to have all that we do.
I had to share this because I'm so very proud of him.   I'm also so very thankful to have friends in my life that inspire these good deeds.
Merry Christmas!

The Force Was With Us

on halloween.  Dimitri and Dominik decided on Star Wars costumes this year. Dominik was Anakin and Dimitri was Darth Vader.  We had a great time visiting Yaya in our costumes.   For Trick Or Treat we went to a friends house and had a blast trick or treating with 10 of our friends!  We got LOTS and LOTS of candy.  Even Mom and Miss Jess got into the spirit.

Annapolis Adventure!

We went sailing on Chesapeake Bay for Papa's 70th birthday.  The crew included my brother and I, my mom and dad, Nana, Papa (of course), Uncle Todd and Maybe-Aunt Mardi. :)
We had a great time.  My favorite part was walking home from the cupcake shop in a major thunderstorm.  Papa made us rain jackets out of garbage bags that the shop lady gave us!
